Yours Truly, Chinaekpere Nnabugwu (Anchor and Host) |
Hello kingdom-minded, success-driven teens and kids. It’s been a long time since I last posted on this platform. I know that a lot of you have missed me. I apologize for the long unexpected break. This is largely due to increased school work that took the greater part of my time. Do please, bear with me.
We are all aware of the COVID 19(Corona Virus Disease 2019), pandemic (i.e. a worldwide disease), that has caused loss of lives in different parts of the world. This has affected us in the sense that we have now been asked to stay at home (without some even writing their exams) to reduce crowding as part of the preventive measures to check the virus and in a way control the virus from spreading.
I believe, you’re aware, Nigeria is
not the only country affected by this forced break. Well during this period that we are to stay at
home, I have some words of advice for us regarding what we can do to stay safe, and committed to our academic pursuit, the break not withstanding.
My advice to you, dearly beloved mates, during this
COVID 19, break period, at home are:
- Stay indoors, most of the time, and when out observe the social distancing rule (see below).
- Always ensure that you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, drink a lot of water, preferably warm water, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing and stay away when others do same.
- Try as much as possible to avoid touching your face, eyes, nose, mouth especially with unclean hands. Avoid touching surfaces, especially metals, unnecessarily as well.
- While it is important to stay away from people, by maintaining at least two meters distance, as we are advised, always bear in mind the need to do so with dignity and respect.
- Report to your Parents or Guardians immediately you notice any of these symptoms: cough, runny nose, difficulty in breathing, sneezing, high temperature(fever), etc.

In addition to the above, you are
also advised to do the following:
- Study your books as a way of keeping yourself busy.
- If you’re like me, that have not written my 2nd term examination, please it is important you see this break as an opportunity to revise your subjects. And, if you have written your exams, it does not stop you from revising your books, and reading ahead for the next term, just as those who have not written their examination are not forbidden from reading ahead also.
- Pray and read your Bible regularly, if you’re a Christian like me; and if you’re a Moslem, I enjoin you to pray and read your Koran. Read other approved scriptural books of your religious faith to supplement your efforts (Parents and Guardians are always there to direct).
- Read other books to learn new things, and acquire new skills.
- Do not over-stress yourself, reading and working only. Engage in fun based activities: playing games, such as Kommon Sense: The Organic Intelligence and communication promotion tool; Ludo, Monopoly, Scrabble, and others, to avoid boredom. Every game has a lesson or more. Always bear this in mind, and seek at all times to pick the lesson(s), rather than allow yourself to be carried away by the fun, that comes with the games.
- Help your parents always, with domestic chores at home. Remember to take a nap daily.
Till I come your way next time, I remain your Anchor and Host...Chinazaekpere Nnabugwu
