FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE WORLDmn&m

Hello dear Kingdom minded, success driven teens and Kids, I bring you warm greetings. I believe you all have been faring well and have remained good ambassadors of the kingdom.

In trying to live up to the standards set by the Bible for us, what are those challenges you have faced, and how have you been able to navigate your way through them so far? Please do well to share with us so that others can learn as well.

Today, I want to share with you something that happened earlier today. I somewhere and some girls were having a conversation about something they were taught the previous day. One of them, the chief discussant was so elated and shared how she had consciously applied the knowledge.

For those of you who have been taught osmosis in basic science - for those in Junior secondary school,  or in Biology - for those in senior secondary school, you are most likely conversant with the terms "hypertonic," "hypotonic, " and "isotonic" For those who are not, the term "hypertonic" is used to describe a cell's environment that is more concentrated than the internal environment of the cell. Placing a cell in such an environment often leads to shrinkage of the cell. "Hypotonic" on the other hand, is the opposite of hypertonic, it is used to describe the environment of a cell that is less concentrated than the cell's environment. Placing a cell in such environment will lead to bursting of the cell.

The girl who initiated the conversation had been in a class recently where she had been taught the practical application of the above terms. The teacher had explained that the knowledge of the above is applied in washing vegetable with salt water, addition of the salt makes the environment of the vegetables (the water) hypertonic and therefore uncomfortable for microorganisms on the vegetables to survive. She excitedly shared with her friends that she was so excited and careful to wash her vegetables with salt later that day.

The above made me ponder on how we as students and pupils approach the things we learn at school. Many times, we just attend classes, cram notes just to pass exams without even understanding how those things apply to us. Have you been in such a situation too,  or do you know someone who has had a similar experience? Please, share with us as well as the lessons you learnt.

As we proceed to the remaining days of this week and this month too,  let us do well to take note of those little opportunities that enable us apply what we are taught in school. Remember that on this platform, we emphasize experiential learning, and of course, don't forget to share your experiences with us.

Till I come your way again,

 Anchor/Host,

Nnabugwu Chinaza

Shalom
