LEADERSHIP AND THE KINGDOM MINDED

Hello wonderful friends and members of this Platform and happy new month to you. Welcome to the eighth month in the year 2025. We give all thanks to God Almighty for bringing us safely to the second month in the third quarter of this year as we look forward to more of His goodness through the rest of the year.

For those of you in primary and secondary schools that are using the Nigerian syllabus, you are most likely on holiday now or about to vacate. To this, I say congratulations on the successful completion of the 2024/2025 academic session. I implore you to ensure that you properly maximize the long vacation to positively impact those around you: family, friends, neighbors, etc. Try to learn at least one, or even more new things, it may be a skill such as baking, coding, photography, editing, or some fun facts about some of the subjects you are studying at school. Also use the time to effectively develop skills you already have like writing, singing, cooking,  drawing, and for those who have been selected as prefect-elects or other leadership positions in school, church or other associations and clubs you belong to, utilize this holiday to hone your leadership skills. Read up articles about great leaders, see how they excelled, challenges they had and what they could have done better, then try to imbibe positive lessons from them.

Speaking of leadership, are you aware dear kingdom-minded and success-driven teens and kids that God is interested in the way you lead? Oh yes! You read that right, God is intentional about leadership and leaders, He is interested in the type of leader you are and the leadership styles and strategies you employ as a kingdom ambassador.

In 1 Samuel 16:1-13 of the Holy Bible, how God chose a leader for Israel. Paul was rejected by God for partial obedience - which is same as disobedience.

1 Samuel 16:7 MSG

But God told Samuel, “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.”

Unlike humans who look at the face, God looks at the heart. He chooses leaders not based on appearance but the heart. Yes,  God has gifted us with many gifts for making kingdom impact, but when it comes to leadership, He searches the heart and not those gifts. A leader in the church or a kingdom minded leader must be one with attributes that are not only expressed in church but are also seen beyond the church, i.e. at home, in school, and wherever you are found.

To be a good leader,  you must have been faithful in something before being appointed or chosen to be a leader. David for example had already developed the heart of a shepherd through faithful tending of His father's sheep, which enabled him to be a good leader to Israel.

So dear friends, as you make plans for the month of August, do remember that you are first of all a Kingdom ambassador before anything else, so all your efforts should be in accordance with the scriptures.

Till I come your way again I am still your friend and anchor/Host,

Nnabugwu Chinaza
