2021 EASTER: DID YOU TAKE TIME TO EXPLORE NATURE AND EXPERIENCE LEARNING?

Beloved kingdom-minded, success-driven teens and kids, the Easter celebration has come and passed. Of a truth some of you traveled to your place of origin, to partake in the various activities of the season, and for some people to share in the beauty of the African extended family system, as culture demands.

I hope you did not narrow your visits to amusement Parks and other fun events only? This is because visits of this nature affords the opportunity to explore and learn about nature and the culture of your people.

For those, whose Grandparents still live and are in the village, did you draw closer to them? If you did not, pity you. That’s all I can say. Truth be told, I can’t quantify the abundance of knowledge they harbor that you obviously missed. Don’t let anybody deceive you, Grandparents are institutions of sort. Some of them can be likened to a library, and surely they are.

My Dear Grandma (seriously I've learnt a lot from her)

Now, to the big one, did you go the farms with your Grandparents? Should I remind you of the benefits of helping out in the preparation of the farms, and taken part in the farming activities? I think I should not tell the benefits, instead invite you to enumerate them when contributing or responding to this piece.

Permit me to still ask, did you explore village life: visit the local streams, attend festivals and witness traditional marriage ceremonies, which I know are fixed during periods, such as Easter.

For me education is broad-based, therefore not limited to what you learn in the classroom. As a matter of fact, education is a combination of what is taught and learnt in the classroom; and the additional lessons gathered from various out-of-classroom activities. Interestingly, it is the outside classroom activities that equip us with the practical experience, and present opportunities to showcase what we have learnt in the classroom and to experience our knowledge. Wao! What an opportunity.

Without practical opportunities, your competency is in doubt, just as your learning is not functional. Come to think of it, without functional and competency based learning, your education is questionable, a fluke, one of our neighbors will say.

Away from the above mentioned, let me draw your attention to the fact that Easter is not all about having fun. The real reason behind the Easter celebration is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ who died to redeem us from Satan, and reconcile us with the Almighty God. Therefore, your life after the Easter celebration, must on consistent basis reflect the life of Jesus Christ.

Finally, I ask, did you find time and share the word of God with family and friends? Did you help the poor and less privileged, around you? Did you give food, clothes and spend time with them? Did you just let them perceive the aroma of your delicious food, while watching you move about in your beautiful clothes?

If your answer to the above is “No”, there is still abundance of time to share the love of God with them, and to give them hope that someone still cares for them.

With Love from your Anchor and Host,

Nnabugwu Chinaza

Cheers.
